When to Pull a Residential Water Well Pump?

When is it necessary to pull a residential water well pump? This is a question we always get asked.

This article explains the importance of pulling your water well pump. Residential water well pumps are essential components of a well system, responsible for drawing water from the underground aquifer and delivering it to your home. However, like mechanical devices, they may require maintenance or replacement over time. One common question homeowners often have is: When is it necessary to pull a residential water well pump?

There are several situations in which pulling a residential water well pump may be necessary in California, Maryland:

Lack of Water Flow:

If you notice a decrease in water pressure or flow from your faucets, it could indicate an issue with your pump. This could be caused by a clogged filter, worn-out impeller, or damaged motor.

Constant Cycling:

If your pump turns on and off frequently (short cycling), it could indicate an underlying problem. This can lead to premature wear and tear on the pump components.

Strange Noises:

Unusual pump noises, such as grinding or screeching, can indicate a problem with the pump’s internal mechanisms.

Contaminated Water:

If you notice changes in the color, taste, or smell of your water supply, it could signal contamination issues within the well system. Pulling the pump for inspection may help identify and resolve these problems.

Age of Pump:

Like any appliance, residential water well pumps have a limited lifespan. Most pumps last 10-15 years before needing replacement due to wear and tear.

  • Woke up to no water. So I called one of the only contractors to have all 5 star reviews. Groves and son. Much to my surprise they were able to stop by the same day to diagnose the issue, a dead well pump. They were scheduled to come out on Friday but came by a day early and installed a new well pump. Let there be water. Friendly, professional and down to earth. Would not hesitate calling them again. Excellent

The worked hard and I now have water again. They informed me of each job they had to do to get my water back on. I highly recommend them and will use them again as needed. Failed well pump - We were Very impressed!! We lost water early AM hours. I called Grove & Son and requested an estimate. Travis was so gracious to stop and look at my issue on his way to another location. He arrived w/in an hour of us speaking. He determined we had a failed pump and quoted me a price. After consulting a few other places, Travis agreed to match best price, and was able to do the work same day!!! After being told by several other companies that schedules were full and nothing could be done until the following week. Travis and crew were at my house working before I even got home from work. He quickly had the water up and running for us. And he accepts CCs. We have a pool party scheduled this Saturday, and thought for sure we would have to cancel when this all went down. But thanks to Grove & Son’s excellent customer service and flexibility, we have running water less than 12 hours later. Big recommendation!!! 👍🙏 Can’t thank you enough!

  • Want to thank these guys so much. We have a small farm and found ourselves without water and they were able to swing by and check it out within a couple hours. Seems we had unknowingly turned off our emergency switch for the well. They quickly found the problem and didn't charge us anything for the inconvenience. Couldn't recommend more.
